Florida: Broward County Voters Hit by System Lockouts and Technical Failures Minutes After Polls Open on Election Day

Voters at multiple polling locations across Broward County, Florida, ran into electronic system problems Tuesday morning that delayed voting just minutes after polls opened at 7 a.m., with workers unable to log into the registration system at several sites.

Issues have been reported at Sunset Lakes Community Center in Miramar, Coconut Palm Elementary School, and South Plantation High School, among others.

At Sunset Lakes, voters had lined up as early as 6:15 a.m., only to be told after the doors opened that poll workers were experiencing technical difficulties and could not access the system.

One voter told the Local 10 News that workers announced they had electronic problems and technicians were working to fix them.

“They have problems, electronic problems, and they can’t log into the system,” the voter told the station.

WSVN 7News described the problem as a systemwide issue that affected Broward polling sites for between 10 and 15 minutes after opening.

Election officials later said the technical issues were resolved and sites were running smoothly, though operations remained under observation.

A separate weather-related disruption forced the relocation of at least one polling place as the Paradise Village Clubhouse in Davie flooded, and voters assigned to that precinct were redirected to Tree Tops Park.

One voter told CBS Miami they were notified of the change after arriving to find the original site closed.

“We’re flooded out at Paradise Village, and it was closed, and we moved over here; they notified us, so now I’m here on Election Day,” Tom Iatesta told the station.

The delays occurred as Broward Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott’s office had already been dealing with separate concerns about mail-ballot delivery delays through the U.S. Postal Service in the weeks leading up to Election Day.

Scott had publicly urged voters to cast ballots in person rather than rely on the mail, citing complaints of ballots sitting at postal facilities and slow turnaround times.

Florida requires mail ballots to arrive by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.

Officials have said the registration-system issues have been fixed and voting has resumed.

Polls remain open until 7 p.m., and anyone in line by closing time is entitled to vote.

The official RNC Election Integrity account responded on X by stating, “RNC observers are on the ground, and we remain in contact with the Supervisor of Elections to protect the vote.”
