The Brew: Zombie Republicans Can’t Handle the Hate We Face

Remember when politicians like Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Paul Ryan assured us that bipartisan cooperation was possible if Republicans would just walk away from the “uncivil” rhetoric of men like Donald Trump? How about when magazines like National Review and respectable Christian spokesmen like Russell Moore and David French rebuked populists for using “divisive” language that “poisoned the public square”?

Do you recall all those arguments saying we lead more souls to Jesus by being “winsome”? How about all those Republicans in the Senate who dropped any investigation of the 2020 election fraud when a few rowdy patriots took some selfies inside the Capitol after feds urged them in and Capitol Police greeted them with smiles? Remember when the “criminal trespass” of standing outside the Capitol proved that January 6 protestors were “children of the same foul spirit” as the 9/11 hijackers? (Those were George W. Bush’s exact words.)

It all seems like 100 years ago, doesn’t it? Now we have nurses, professors, grammar school teachers, Secret Service agents, and Army colonels justifying and celebrating the brutal shooting of a peaceful American citizen for preaching the Gospel and debating abortion with students on college campuses. But like Disneyland animatronic robots with dying batteries, too many Republicans are still mumbling phrases that were scripted long ago, before the Left’s mask slipped off to show us its true face. They’re reminding me of a young Kevin Bacon’s epic moment in Animal House:

The thing is, such people aren’t afraid of the violence of the Left, the chaos of open borders, the rampant crime in our cities, or the legal persecution of Christians. They feel, for both good and bad reasons, perfectly safe. Their reactions to Charlie Kirk’s murder revealed that there’s just one thing they dread: true patriots taking over the Republican Party and genuine Christians taking over the Church.

Read Shawn Fleetwood’s piece at The Federalist on the bland, gaslighting comments aimed at tranquilizing the Right from a long list of legacy “conservative Christians,” including Senators James Lankford and Thom Tillis and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox. Fleetwood concludes:

Instead of fecklessly embracing both sides-ism and a kumbaya attitude, elected Republicans need to grow a pair and use every legal mechanism available to them under the law and Constitution to destroy the leftist violence threatening American society. That means, for example, investigating individuals and organizations financially supporting these violent acts and bringing the full force of the law down upon them for any and all lawbreaking.

This call to action doesn’t just apply to national Republicans, either. State and local GOP officials should be exploring avenues to fracture and dismantle the organized leftist violence permeating their jurisdictions to ensure the safety and prosperity of their constituents.

The next Republican primary season might be the most important battleground for our country’s future, if President Donald Trump will stop automatically endorsing every Swamp creature with a pulse and lead a voter’s purge of the patsies, stooges, and surrender monkeys who want us to negotiate with terrorists lest we stumble into “cancel culture.”

Some people need to be kept out of positions of authority, power, and influence — like, for instance, if they support political murder. Any “conservative Christian” who denies that deserves to see his political career steamrolled, just like Kevin Bacon’s character.

A Brief Survey of Saner Responses

Larry Taunton knows what time it is:

So does White House spokesman Stephen Miller, who disappointed me by not getting himself elected pope, but whom I will settle for as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court someday:

To refute Miller’s claim that they are vicious and hateful, leftist extremists are chalking vicious and hateful messages on the sidewalks near Miller’s home for his children to see:

Centrist legal scholar and author Jonathan Turley has an upcoming book on the Left’s legitimization of furious self-righteousness and political violence. This is from his latest column at The Hill:

For months, some of us have warned about the rise in rage rhetoric. Some believe that they can ride a wave of rage back into power. House Minority Leader Hakeem  Jeffries (D., N.Y.) has called for people to take to the streets to save democracy and posted a picture of himself brandishing a baseball bat.

Likewise, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) declared, “I’m going to punch these sons of b*****s in the mouth.”

Various radical groups welcome such rage rhetoric, particularly Antifa. The most violent anti-free speech group in the U.S., Antifa has long attacked journalists and others with opposing views. In his “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook,”Professor Mark Bray noted that “most Americans in Antifa have been anarchists or antiauthoritarian communists. … From that standpoint, ‘free speech’ as such is merely a bourgeois fantasy unworthy of consideration.”

Alleged shooter Tyler Robinson, 22, reportedly left telltale Antifa markings on evidence, including marking bullets inscribed with the lyrics: “Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao”(from an Italian anti-fascist anthem) and “Hey, fascist! Catch!”

I previously testified in Congress about the dangers of Antifa, and I discuss the group in my book. Despite such warnings, Democratic leaders have dismissed those dangers or actually embraced Antifa.

The time to stop fighting by the Marquess of Queensbury Rules is the moment your opponent pulls a switchblade out of his boxing trunks.

As Utah Turns into Somalia …

Unless, of course, you’re perfectly happy to live in a country where headlines like this don’t provoke shock and surprise, because they’re now par for the course. From Gateway Pundit: “Pakistani Men Living in Utah Charged with Lighting Bomb Under FOX Van During Charlie Kirk Assassination Coverage Had ‘Is He Dead Yet?’ Flag Hanging Outside Their House.”

Meanwhile, one in four self-identified Leftists think political murder is acceptable to celebrate:

But of course, none of this would be happening if it weren’t for Donald Trump’s mean tweets. Just keep telling yourself, “Welcome the stranger, regardless of context. Our diversity is our strength.”

I feel stronger than I did in 2016, don’t you? In a weird way, that’s actually true. Hard times create strong men. How hard will they have to get, though? Let’s pray that we stop well short of the kind of crisis our forefathers in faith faced in France in 1793, in Russia in 1917, and in Spain 1936. But that’s the trajectory we’re on, and anyone who tells you otherwise is blowing smoke.

Don’t miss James Robison explaining the biblical truth of real repentance and the lasting effect it has on our lives.

The always thoughtful Tim Furnish takes a careful look at the Trump administration’s report on anti-Christian bias under the Biden regime. His conclusion? “The Democrat Party is dominated by non-Christians, whom the party elites have to placate.” And boy did the Democrats comply.
