New Jersey Polling Places Moved Due to Threats

Several polling places in New Jersey were moved on Tuesday due to threats, according to the state attorney general.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin (D) said in a statement, “Early this morning, law enforcement responded to threats that were received by email involving certain polling places in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic Counties.

“Law enforcement officers have responded at each affected polling place, and they have worked swiftly to secure these polling locations and ensure the safety of every voter. Some of these polling locations have already reopened to the public. At others, voters will be directed to a nearby polling location to cast their ballot.”

New Jersey voters are casting ballots for the gubernatorial election on Tuesday, in which Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican former state Rep. Jack Ciattarelli are facing off against each other.

New Jersey’s Democratic lieutenant governor and secretary of state, Tahesha Way, posted on X on Tuesday regarding the bomb threats, saying, “We are aware of threats made to several polling locations in New Jersey. Law enforcement has determined that there are no credible threats at this time.

“We are doing everything in our power to protect voters and poll workers and coordinate closely with state, local and federal partners to ensure a smooth and safe election. We encourage every eligible voter to exercise their right to vote before 8:00 p.m. today.”

A Quinnipiac poll from last week showed Sherrill is beating Ciattarelli by 8 points: 51 to 43. This poll showed that the Democrat had widen her lead over the Republican candidate.

“Will another Democrat assume the reins from Governor Phil Murphy? In the final days of a very combative race, Mikie Sherrill’s 20 percentage point advantage with women fuels her overall lead of 8 points over Jack Ciattarelli,” Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac University polling analyst said.

On Monday, former Republican New Jersey Governor Gov. Thomas Kean endorsed Ciattarelli, saying the “state needs a change,” according to Just the News.
