We’ve written here before about proposed draconian “hate speech” laws in Canada that would criminalize religious criticism of Islam and ban biblical preaching on sexual morality. Now one of those bills seems likely to become law, and the Left in Canada just made its provisions incomparably worse. The National Post reports:
The federal Liberals insist their new bill is needed to protect religious Canadians from hate. In reality, it does the opposite — it will expose people of faith to criminal prosecution for the simple act of quoting their own sacred texts.
The Liberals and Bloc Quebecois have made a deal to eliminate long-standing Criminal Code safeguards for freedom of expression and religious freedom in exchange for the Bloc supporting Bill C-9, which is currently before the House of Commons Justice Committee.
Canada’s hate speech laws currently say people cannot be prosecuted for expressing, “in good faith,” an argument or opinion on a religious subject or “based on belief in a religious text.”…
This isn’t some obscure legal technicality. The Supreme Court has recognized this defence as necessary to keep Canada’s hate-speech laws constitutional, understanding how crucial freedom of expression and freedom of religion are.
If this amendment is adopted and Bill C-9 is passed, people of faith could be imprisoned for up to two years for expressing deeply held religious convictions that the government finds offensive….
The Liberal chair of the House of Commons Justice Committee, Marc Miller, said at an earlier meeting that there was “clear hatred” in some books of the Bible and Torah, singling out Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Romans.
The man who called the Bible “clearly hateful” just got promoted to Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity.
Is this really what the Carney government thinks Canadian culture should look like?

“Clearly there are situations in these texts where these statements are hateful,” Miller said. “They should not be used to invoke or be a defence.” He was explicit that prosecutors should be able to, in his words, “press charges.”
The Liberals are now prepared to codify this anti-religious bigotry with the help of the Bloc Quebecois.
The Bloc has long pushed for the ability to prosecute people for religious expression. It unsuccessfully attempted to make these changes in the previous parliament.
Think this kind of thing can’t happen in another English-speaking liberal democracy with a lot less snow? Remember that states such as California and Massachusetts already deem faithful Christians “unfit” foster parents for refusing to support transgender “transitions” for children, and that the Democrats since Barack Obama have carefully shifted their language on religious liberty. Now they speak of “freedom of worship,” which lasts an hour or two on Sundays, instead of the Constitution’s “free exercise of religion.” Christians have such “freedom of worship” in Egypt and Iran — and even in Canada.
Silencing the Gospel in Mississippi
There’s a crucial religious freedom case in Mississippi being fought by First Liberty Institute, which saw evangelist Gabe Olivier prosecuted for preaching the Gospel in a public park. First Liberty reports:
Gabe, like millions of Americans, loves his family and is passionate about sharing his Christian faith. He hosts Bible studies and shares the Gospel wherever he goes.
Gabe went to a public park to stand outside a well-attended event, as he had numerous times before, to talk to others about his beliefs. But he was forced into a remote “protest” area, isolated from those he wanted to reach.
The city of Brandon, Mississippi prohibits by law Gabe or anyone else from engaging in religious speech – whether through conversations, signs, or even a t-shirt – in a significant portion of a public park. Dissatisfied that no one could hear him, Gabe left the designated area so he could actually reach people. The police arrested him. He paid the fine and was released.
After his arrest, Gabe challenged the local ordinance in federal court, arguing that his religious liberty rights were violated. But the court dismissed his constitutional claim. So, Gabe wasn’t just prohibited from sharing the Gospel. He was also denied his day in court, one of our most basic rights as Americans. … The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear Gabe’s case–and the outcome will impact the civil rights of every American, religious or not.
Jihadis and Leftists Attack NY Synagogue — as Gay Activists Attacked St. Patrick’s Cathedral
In a new column I wrote over at Chronicles Magazine, I talk about the appalling siege of Park East Synagogue in New York City on November 19, where Muslim immigrants and home-grown radicals blocked Jews from entering that place of worship, chanting hateful slogans and wishing “Death to the IDF.” This ugly spectacle reminded me of a 1989 attack by gay activists on St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1989, which burst into the church during Sunday Mass, and included profanation of the Eucharist. Here’s a snippet:
ACT UP, or the “Aids Coalition to Unleash Power” (one of the cringiest acronyms in history), claimed in its leaflets and fliers that Cardinal O’Connor was culpable for the deaths of homosexuals infected by AIDS, because the Church would not take part in the distribution of condoms–as if Catholic men who ignored the Church’s firm condemnation of sodomy would somehow stop short of disobeying its ban on the use of condoms in marital intercourse. This logic is even more tortured than the claim that Park East Synagogue is complicit in the “genocide” that some allege happened in Gaza.
New Jersey Tries to Dox Pro-Life Donors to Pregnancy Centers
If abortion fanatics cannot virtually outlaw pro-life pregnancy centers, as incoming New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has pledged to do, they can do the next best thing: expose the center’s donors, hoping that fear of ostracism, job loss, or even violence will deter people from donating baby formula, diapers, and toys to women who decided to choose life. That’s what the State of New Jersey’s attorney general tried to do, and that case is now before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Tomorrow the Supreme Court will hear oral argument in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin. Attorney General Matthew Platkin has made no secret of his hostility toward pro-life pregnancy centers, demanding that First Choice identify nearly 5,000 of its donors. Happily, the attorneys for New Jersey appear to be comically unprepared and ill-equipped:
I don’t recall when I’ve ever enjoyed a Supreme Court argument as much as the one this morning in Plotkin v First Choice Pregnancy Center. The lawyer for New Jersey tied himself up in knots making contradictory arguments and ultimately foundered on his insistence that a subpoena…

NJ has to admit that they had no real complaints against First Choice pregnancy centers. Thank you, Clarence Thomas.

But get enough far-Left justices like Ketanji Brown Jackson on the court, and coherence doesn’t really matter. Roe v. Wade was atrocious law, as was Obergefell v. Hodge. Activist judges aren’t looking for the real meaning of the law, or the Constitution, and don’t respect the people’s will. They just want results, and will shoehorn a “social justice” outcome into any law that comes before them. Elections have consequences.
Speaking of Elections, the GOP Dodges a Bullet, Wins a Race that Shouldn’t Have Even Been Close
Given the disarray in conservative organizations in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder, and the thrashing the GOP took in the most recent round of elections, observers were worried that a district in Tennessee that voted for Trump by double digits might actually elect a far-Left Democrat who’d actually said she “hated” the City of Nashville. It took a full-court press by President Donald Trump to get out the vote to save this seat for the GOP, whose majority in the House keeps getting thinner.
A major win tonight for Congressman-Elect Matt Van Epps and the people of Tennessee’s 7th Congressional district.
He defeated a candidate who:
– Openly admitted she dislikes the state she ran to represent
– Hates prayer
– Opposes ICE
– Loves abortion
– Backed the BLM riots…. pic.twitter.com/HLX6G9CoLn— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) December 3, 2025
The race was razor thin before Trump got involved — which ought to teach Establishment Republicans a lesson: Running away from Trump, or trying to quash his influence over the Republican party, is as smart as the Democrats shoving Barack Obama under the bus in 2012. Of course, no Democrat was ever foolish enough to do that.
Peace Might Break Out in Ukraine, Granting Russia Significant Gains
I’ve been writing here for years that the war in Ukraine was stupid, a Deep State project that saw cynical American globalists and neoconservatives willing to fight Donald Trump to the last dead Ukrainian. Now, as corruption scandals explode all through the Ukrainian government, and despite the bleatings of NATO countries, it seems that a resolution might be on the table. The Conservative Treehouse reports:
On Sunday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with the Ukraine negotiating team in Florida to further discuss acceptable terms for a broader ceasefire and end to the war.
Still trying to recover from corruption charges against his senior presidential team, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not at the talks. Instead, the Ukraine delegation was led by State Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, while Zelenskyy went to Paris for an emotional support session with Emmanuel Macron.
Secretary Rubio and Secretary Umerov spoke before and after their 5-hour negotiation session. Secretary Rubio emphasized the main topic as securing the long-term future of Ukraine both from a security position and from an economic prosperity position.
This state security aspect comes as the Ukraine delegation is facing pressure to accept, they will lose most -if not all- of the Donbas region to Russia. “The end goal is obviously not just the end of the war. Obviously, that’s central and fundamental,” Rubio said. “It’s also about securing an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent and with an opportunity at real prosperity.”
Of course both the Left and the interventionist Right are caterwauling about “appeasement,” and demanding that the U.S. risk open war with Russia.
But in fact, the moral question of what Ukraine deserves is much more complex, as a fascinating piece over at The Federalist explains. It notes that the Ukrainian government (installed by a CIA-backed coup in 2015) went all-in to help elect Hillary Clinton, and then to assist the attempted coup against Donald Trump that was the Russia collusion hoax. Kiev gambled that it might gain influence, keep Russian-speaking territory, and even get into NATO if it helped the Democrats.
High-ranking Ukrainian officials, including the prime minister, the interior minister, and the ambassador in Washington, took deliberate steps in 2016 to sabotage Trump’s campaign and boost Hillary Clinton. They spread anti-Trump narratives, coordinated messaging with Western media, and orchestrated the fake black ledger used to destroy Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort. The ledger was later acknowledged by Ukraine’s own former intelligence chief to have likely been fabricated. Even Politico admitted the interference in a post-election piece describing Ukraine’s efforts to help Clinton.
That gamble failed, and now that country will pay the price of trying to ruin our country. Maybe next time, don’t interfere in our elections and back fake impeachment attempts against our head of state. It’s a tragedy, of course, that so many ordinary Ukrainians were killed, wounded, or displaced because of the reckless actions of their crooked leaders.
