Dominion Voting Systems no longer exists. From Just the News:

“Dominion Voting Systems, which was at the center of controversy following the 2020 election, was recently renamed ‘Liberty Vote’ and was sold to new ownership late last month, the new owners announced Thursday. The voting technology company was sold to Republican Scott Leiendecker, a former director of elections for the city of St. Louis, The Hill reported. Leiendecker also created the largest provider of electronic poll books: KNOWiNK. The sale, which was finalized in September, makes Leiendecker the sole private owner. The cost of the sale was not disclosed.”

For certain, the name changed. The company was acquired by Liberty Vote but, according to alleged internal communications, the only change happening is the name:

“Same team, same support, different name.”

Internally, Dominion is saying only the name is changing. Publicly, this acquisition is being billed as legacy-building transformational change:

“Today, I am proud to announce Liberty Vote – a 100% American-owned election technology company dedicated to restoring trust in our elections. Our mission is clear: every vote must be secure, fair, and verifiable. I have spent my life working to strengthen America’s elections. That commitment began years ago, in the aftermath of the 2000 election, when I worked for the Missouri Secretary of State. Later, as Election Director in St. Louis, I led the effort to modernize outdated systems and rebuild public trust. Eventually, I founded an election technology company that today serves nearly one in four voters nationwide. With Liberty Vote, we are building on that legacy. We are turning the page and beginning the vital work of restoring faith in American elections. While these changes will not happen overnight, Liberty Vote’s mission is rooted in American values and committed to transparency, independent audits, and verifiable paper records.”

My initial reaction to the news that Dominion Voting Systems was bought by the creator of KNOWiNK, and that there’s a “Liberty Vote” rebranding going on was that it’s not good. Both of these vendors have vulnerabilities and allegations of fraud in US elections. Putting them together under one umbrella and calling it “Liberty Vote” does not solve any of the alleged issued with Dominion or KNOWiNK.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t be convinced that this is a good thing. There’s a reading of this where a good guy now owns (and ostensibly has physical custody of) all of the DVS source code. If that’s what is going on, open up the machines and source code. 100% transparency – followed by prosecutions and accountability.

What we aren’t going to do is trust anything about this deal or accept it as satisfying change to election administration in America.

Trust is earned.

And when it’s broken – which it repeatedly has been by the elections administration and technology industries – it’s damn hard to get back.
